Exploring the digital transformation of education

15 Apr 2024

Education is the process of teaching or receiving knowledge which is not familiar to one.

There are many types of education, and the two main ones are formal education and non-formaleducation, which is any way outside of school. From what we learn in classes, we remember 10% of what we read, 20% of what we hear, 30% of what we see, and 70% of what we personally experience. This is why it’s crucial for these implementations of digital changes into the educational system, in order to shape education into a better space to teach children.
The digital world has been developing every year in correlation to all the new technological advancements that have been occurring, resulting in education transforming, which allows for these percentages to change and be higher, so that children can have different and more experiences within education, so therefore remember more.

Over the past years, the digital world has evolved, meaning that educational platforms are able to change to become more efficient and productive. For example, there are many more non-formal educational platforms, online teaching methods, and virtual reality which is now used highly in conjunction with AI. This advancement and enhancement in technology allows for a more interactive educational approach, as new and improved tools can be used.
Resulting in better understanding for those who are learning, which creates a better
experience and allows for the knowledge to be stored and retained more in the persons brain, compared to the regular approach to education, which as mentioned doesn’t motivate the person to continue studying extra after school hours, and doesn’t help restore the information. Highlighting how much the digital world has transformed in relation to adapting to education.

A project ThinkYoung has been creating in participation with Boeing is Coding school. Started in 2016, which has been possible with all the new technology and digital advancements, in order to insight students with an important tool and skill that can be used in everyday life. This has added a change to education, as their aim was to provide this opportunity for students especially girls, as it’s a subject that is seen to be predominately dominated by men. Another project which ThinkYoung has now release, is a non-formal approach to education called ACID. This is an app which is split into 7 modules, and also has a buddy feature so that you can connect with others. This non-formal application designed to teach young people on active citizenship has been possible due to the transformation of the digital world. Allowing
for education to be transformed into a better and easier platform that young people all over the world can use the learn and be educated.
