The Rise of AI Jobs as Competitors

The Rise of AI Jobs as Competitors

05 Feb 2024

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been growing exponentially in the past few years, seeing its humble beginnings from simple image and data recognition, to fully fledged data analysis and extrapolated art.

In November 2023, ChatGPT took the world by storm, leading to an increased interest in the field of AI and its practical applications in the workplace. Notably, prestigious publications such as Forbes and The New York Times have published several articles on the subject, further highlighting its significance.

Therefore, it's essential to examine the benefits of AI in the workplace by observing recent examples of companies that have implemented it: one is Amazon Go store with its groundbreaking concept that eliminates the need for cashiers and other customer service representatives, thanks to its advanced AI technology; another is Google Duplex, an AI virtual assistant equipped with advanced conversational capabilities that allows it to set up appointments in real-time and conduct natural conversations with the person on the other end of the phone.

As the world of technology continues to advance, it's natural to feel apprehensive. Yet, history reveals that this unease is not groundbreaking. The advent of telephones once brought forth comparable worries about social isolation and indolence.

With the potential of AI replacing traditional jobs, the gig economy may become more popular due to its flexibility and autonomy. However, this shift could also result in new job opportunities, such as data analysis, machine learning, and AI development. While younger generations are being educated in these future roles, older generations are at risk of being left behind. Therefore, employers must provide their employees with new tools to upskill and remain relevant in an ever-evolving market.

In conclusion, investing in AI education and upskilling our workforce is crucial to guarantee our progress and development, and pave the way for a better future for everyone.
